About the author

robRob Howard began playing the accordion in 1968, and was at first self-taught, then in the 1970s had lessons at the Manchester School of Music with Kevin Munster and Ken Farran. Rob has also had piano, guitar, bodhran and harmonica lessons, though the accordion is his favourite instrument and passion.

A teacher of English in secondary schools, his day job led to forming the St Pius RC High School Accordion Band in 1977 (which grew to a membership of 27 players plus a drummer) and also playing in the school orchestra for shows such as Oliver, Joseph, West Side Story, etc, and performing solo in many school concerts. All this experience proved invaluable when Rob became the Concert Secretary of the Stockport Accordion Club in 1990, presenting artists of national and international renown up to the present time.
